••• I spoke with Efraim Bason, proprietor of Fish Republic, opening in the former Blaue Gans space on Duane. He confirmed it will be a seafood restaurant, and that it will indeed be more high-end than his Out of the Blue in Hampton Bays. Out of the Blue is a wholesaler, restaurant, and retail operation, but the Duane Street restaurant won’t have a retail component (alas), and the best-case scenario has the restaurant opening in January.
••• Elizabeth says that Joe & the Juice also refuses to accept cash. And she points out something I mentioned long ago: Tipping (in advance, no less) 15% to 20% for counter service is nuts.
••• This weekend (November 17 and 18) at the BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center: “Sensuous, beautiful and soul-moving, Tango Legends, based in Argentina, features the brilliant performers Mariela Maldonado and Pablo Sosa, who were honored in 2012 with the title of “Outstanding Personalities of Culture” by the government of the Capital Province Buenos Aires. This spectacular event includes eight dazzling dancers, three world-class musicians, and a master vocalist.”
••• And on Sunday, from 2 p.. to 6 p.m., “celebrity” bartenders Colin Quinn and Mike Sheehan will tend bar at Woodrow’s to benefit charitable causes.
••• The New York Dolls strip club on Murray is now officially FlashDancers Presents: New York Dolls Gentlemen’s Club, and less formally, FlashDancers Downtown.
••• 49 Chambers really is looking swell.
