ROSIE POPE CLOSING
The maternity store at 55 Warren – which also has the cutest baby shoes ever – is closing on Feb. 12 and moving “uptown,” according to the store manager. The shop was opened in 2012 by former ballet dancer (and former local resident) Rosie Pope. There’s a “major” sale going on at the store, but if you miss that, the mothership is still at 90th and Mad.
THE BLOB TAKES TRIBECA
K. sent this snap of workers prepping the site for Anish Kapoor’s blob (well, the one in Chicago is actually called Cloud Gate) installation at 56 Leonard. The objects on the sidewalk seem to delineate the edge of the sculpture, she notes. Read this for a very detailed explanation of how they are actually going to build this thing out of stainless steel and wedge it under the building. Exciting!

…has several solo shows up through March 2, including one titled “Arctic Fading” by Ellen Jacob. This is her dramatic intro: “My father died on April 5, 2018. Days later I landed near the North Pole. The Arctic, no matter how substantial it seems is becoming illusory. Each year, the ice melts a little sooner, retreats further. Drifting among the ice floes this landscape became personal. It allowed me a moment to reflect on mortality—my dad’s, my own and the planet’s.”
