If you have any interest in seeing a floating pool come to the Brooklyn Bridge Esplanade, now’s the time to make your opinion known. With EDC setting a fall deadline for plans for the East River Esplanade, + POOL is looking to make the list of potential options and is seeking community support.
The pool (which looks like its name) filters river water to safe standards. The organization behind it is a non-profit with a mission to bring New Yorkers back to the river (folks last swam formally in the East River in 1938) and preserve the city’s waterways. It will take two years, they guess, to get the permits done, but once complete, the pool would accommodate 481 people at a time, or 2,800 in a day, or 300,000 over the season.
If this floats your boat, write to Community Board 1 or to the mayor with words of support.
