Seen & Heard: Free classes for kids + moms at BPC

BATTERY PARK CITY FREE CLASSES
BPCA has a slew of free classes, some of which require a sign up and some that are just drop-in. Check the website for times for Parent and Baby Yoga, Morning Mediation, Senior Drop-In, Badminton Sundays, Zumba – troll through the site because there are tons more. But the one with exceptional appeal for parents in my mind is after-school outdoor games on the fields. (I am a big believer in playing outdoors in winter.) Looks like it is Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 3:30 to 5 for ages 7 and up. Games include soccer, flag football, hockey and more, organized by ballfields staff or play on your own. Equipment provided.

ROAD CLOSURES AROUND THE CORNER
See photo above, and, if you are planning to have a new sofa delivered, note the following for Warren Street next weekend: A temporary roadway closure is necessary to facilitate utility work, in conjunction with the DDC Warren & John Streets Reconstruction Project. This roadway closure will begin on Saturday, February 23rd from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Sunday, February 24th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Flaggers will be present at all times and will assist with emergency vehicle access as necessary. We thank you for your patience while we rebuild NYC infrastructure.

YUH-LINE NIOU UP FOR EMILY’S LIST AWARD
State Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, who represents the FiDi and lower BPC, was nominated for EMILY’s List 2019 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award, which is chosen by community input. EMILY’s list is a PAC that supports pro-choice Democratic female elected. Named in honor of former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the award honors a woman who demonstrates commitment to community, dedication to women and families, and determination and civility. Previous Rising Star Award recipients include Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams in 2014, Boston City Councilwoman Ayanna Pressley in 2015, Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran in 2016, Philadelphia City Councilwoman Helen Gym in 2017, and Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in 2018. Online voting can be found here.

‘THE COAT’ TAKES TRIBECA
I missed the memo on The Coat – a $140 item on Amazon that took the UES (had to share my love of Leslie Jones for this brilliant vid) by storm last season. But now that I know about it, I see it everywhere on Downtown streets. Here it is in black, modeled by neighborhood Xtend instructor, the lovely Miss Brooke Jones. So it that it for Canada Goose?

TILL NEXT YEAR

One last snap for Valentine’s Day, because who doesn’t like flowers: Claudine Williams caught this shot of Jeff Goldstein buying roses for his team at Blue and Cream yesterday.

  1. “The Coat” is a sponsored story seen on sites such Daily Mail produced by a viral news chop shop in the Ukraine. It only became a movement after it was embedded between real news stories. Advertisers win!

  2. Looks like dads are welcome at those BPC classes too!
