In the News: More on and of Crown Shy

Bloomberg’s partnership with The Quint has a complementary write-up on the new Fidi restaurant Crown Shy, and also this tidbit, that they are opening a second venue on the 66th floor of 70 Pine. “The Art Deco building at 70 Pine Street was built by Cities Service Company (which later became Citgo) after the crash of ‘29. In 1976, it became AIG’s HQ and chairman Maurice “Hank” Greenberg installed a private dining room on the 66th floor, in the former glass-walled observation deck. Later this year, the Crown Shy crew will open that room to all, opening an as yet-unnamed restaurant with views.”

THE END OF INSTACART AT WF
Crain’s reports that Instacart has ended its deal with Whole Foods, and will start laying off its employees around the city, starting with the 28 who work the Tribeca Whole Foods. Citywide, more than 200 of the part-time workers will lose their jobs. However, this only applies to the Instacart workers who shopped but did not deliver; the ones that do both are independent contractors and did not get laid off. This is all due to competition with Amazon Fresh and Prime Now. (And if you are into the online grocery wars, Bloomberg has an interesting story about how the NYC market is shifting away from Fresh Direct.)

BROOKFIELD WILL SMELL BETTER

STAR SIGHTINGS AT FRENCHETTE

Harris and Awol Erizku.
