Seen & Heard: Free tennis clinics for kids

TENNIS CLINICS FOR KIDS
The Friends of Washington Market Park will host free tennis clinics for kids age 5 to 8 this spring on four upcoming Mondays: April 29, May 6, 13 and 20. The hour from 3:30-4:30p is ages 5 and 6; 4:30-5:30p for ages 7 and 8. The instruction is from tennis pro Eduardo Gil who leads drills and games and teaches the basics of the sport while showing kids a great time. No reservations are necessary — the first 20 children to arrive at the courts for each time slot will be able to participate. Please bring your own racket!

SCIENCE FAIR AT BUCKLE MY SHOE
Buckle My Shoe will host a free preschool interactive science fair next Saturday, May 4, from 10a to 1p at its school at 40 Worth and Church. A $10 suggested donation per family will go towards science education programs for youth. RSVP at sciencefair@bucklemyshoe.org

LOCAL RESIDENT RUNNING DEVELOPMENT AT ICP
Tribeca resident Kirra Steel has been named chief development officer of the International Center of Photography, leading fundraising and special events as the museum and school reunify at a new location at Essex Crossing on the LES. Steel came to ICP after running development programs for the Guggenheim, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and SFMOMA. Steel has lived for the past seven years near Washington Market Park and has a daughter who will be attending a local preschool this fall. You might spot her at the Mysterious Bookshop, Laughing Man, BookNook, Fourteen Jay or tenoverten.

 

MICHELIN CHEF AT FIDI KOSHER STEAKHOUSE
The kosher steak house Reserve Cut (40 Broad) added Michelin-Starred Chef Richard Farnabe to its kitchen, making it the first kosher restaurant in the U.S. with a Michelin-starred chef. Farnabe has worked with Daniel Boulud and Jean-Georges Vongerichten in the past and is bring in recipes like Bone Marrow Crusted Veal Chop and Wagyu Short Rib Steam Buns. He began his career in France under Michelin-starred Chef Jacques Maximin, and has worked in New York City’s most notable kitchens including Soho Grand Hotel, The Tribeca Grand Hotel, Petrossian Restaurant, Jean Georges and Mercer Kitchen. He snagged two stars in the 2009 Michelin Guide for his work with Picholine but these two achievements are more fun: a Guinness World Record for the most expensive soufflé and a Time Out best donut note for his savory donuts at Forbiddendonuts.
