CHIEF ENTREPRENEURS
The women at Chief get a profile in Entrepreneur: “The statistics are familiar and disheartening: Women in business hold less than 25 percent of all executive positions and less than 5 percent of CEO titles. For the women who do climb the corporate ladder, it can be lonely at the top — but a group called Chief is out to change that.”
RETAIL UNDERGROUND
The Journal has a story on the MTA’s plans to reimagine its retail operations, and while our stations are not part of the immediate plans, it fits into the news of the vending machine at the Chambers Street IRT. “Subway riders may soon be able to grab a third-wave coffee or a craft beer at some of New York’s busiest subway stations as part of a plan to revamp dozens of subterranean retail spaces.”
JAY-Z IS A BILLIONAIRE
From Forbes: “Jay-Z has accumulated a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion, making him one of only a handful of entertainers to become a billionaire—and the first hip-hop artist to do so. Jay-Z’s steadily growing kingdom is expansive, encompassing liquor, art, real estate (homes in Los Angeles, the Hamptons, Tribeca) and stakes in companies like Uber.”
RFP FOR 5 WORLD TRADE
From Crain’s: “The Port Authority and the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. have reached a deal to release a request for proposals in the coming months for 5 World Trade Center [where Deutsche Bank once stood], several people involved or familiar with the negotiations between the agencies told Crain’s. The parcel, which can accommodate over 1 million square feet of commercial or mixed-use development, could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars and is expected to draw attention from developers interested in raising an office, hotel or apartment spire, or a tower that could include all three uses.”
PEARL STREET MARRIOTT CLOSING IN
From New York Yimby: “Gene Kaufman’s upcoming Marriott Courtyard and Residence Inn at 215 Pearl Street is steadily getting closer to the finish line. The project is a 396-foot-tall and 39-story hotel in the heart of Lower Manhattan’s Financial District. 320 suites are expected to be created inside the 165,655-square-foot reinforced concrete structure.”
Hi! Is there a link for the Chief story? It looks fascinating! I googled but “chief women entrepreneur” did not turn up much :)

5 WTC…it’s about time. Slap a 6 on the PAC being built next to tower 1 and we’ll have all 7 WTC buildings back. (once 2 FINALLY goes up of course).
This whole CHIEF idea seems rather sexist. Am I right, guys?
For sure! You guys have been so taken advantage of over the centuries.
No, you are not right. You are wrong. – A guy
