Todd Snyder is open at the Liquor Store

The menswear designer Todd Snyder is now open at 2 White St., the former J. Crew store in the landmarked liquor store. Snyder worked for J. Crew himself, when the brand first opened that shop, before branching out on his own. The release said the store will offer a “highly personalized shopping experience for the modern gent, offering everything a guy needs to dress and live well” — and, I believe, drinks at the door. (!)

There will also be member events (I will have to find out how we join), such as rare wine and whisky tastings, intimate music listening parties and art exhibits, plus a selection of collectible records and books. Everything in the store is for sale — including the furnishings sourced from 1stdibs and ABC Carpet. Snyder is hoping to reinvent — or maybe better to say revive — the retail experience: “At the moment, the digital retail landscape simply cannot replicate the sensory experience of browsing a physical store, nor can it compete with the interpersonal touch of interacting with a human sales associate. Todd Snyder at the Liquor Store is a highly tailored re-imagination of the retail experience that seeks to remind our clients why there is no substitution.”

Snyder’s flagship store opened in 2016 in the Flatiron, off Madison Square Park, and has a hair salon called The Kin Room, a cafe and an in-house tailor. (There are also concept stores in Osaka and Tokyo.)
