Seen & Heard: Anish Kapoor sculpture finally coming to 56 Leonard

It looks like the blob is finally coming to town. Word on the street is that barricades actually signal the start of the installation for the Anish Kapoor sculpture that will be wedged under 56 Leonard. It may take up to two months before it is complete, which gives it a Christmas Instagram deadline. All very exciting. Can’t wait to see it come together.

KNIGHTED FASHION DESIGNER COMES TO LEONARD
Canadian couture designer Marie Saint Pierre has opened a pop-up store at 249 Church, open through Nov. 3. She has the lovely corner space at Leonard and will feature the brand’s FW19 menswear collections and its most renowned classic pieces. “Giving more insight into the maison’s 32-year legacy and history, the brand will showcase, for the very first time, its most iconic and unique vintage pieces during a special event later this fall. The pieces will then be exclusively available for purchase at the pop-up.” Saint Pierre has the title of the knight of the National Order of Quebec for her work, and was also the first fashion designer to be admitted into the Arts Academy of Canada.

‘70s POLITICS REVIEWED IN ART
At Alexander and Bonin through Oct. 26: Fernando Bryce, The Decade Review, an exhibition of new work that chronicles the intellectual, political and cultural currents of the 1970s. Bryce’s drawings re-examine the way historical events are represented in media in what he calls ‘mimetic analysis.’ The gallery is at 47 Walker.

NEW YORKER FICTION EDITOR TAKES ON CHABON
Tribecan Deborah Treisman, the fiction editor at The New Yorker, will host a chat with author Michael Chabon as part of the New Yorker Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Directors Guild on 57th. Chabon’s career includes a Pulitzer Prize and his current role as the showrunner of “Star Trek: Picard.” Treisman is also the host of the magazine’s monthly Fiction Podcast and its weekly podcast The Writer’s Voice.

MACAO BUILDING IS FOR SALE
G. sent along the listing for 311 Church, the five-story building that has Macao on the ground floor and in the basement (at Lispenard and Walker). Macao has a lease that keeps them there at least until 2023.
