A TRIBECA WELCOME TO THE PETIT CHOU
Maman’s co-founders (and Tribeca residents) Elisa Marshall and Ben Sormonte are both newly engaged and just welcomed a baby boy — Yves! Elisa — now fully living up to the name of her cafes — gave birth in Montreal, where they have their newest cafe as well. The couple is also celebrating the fifth anniversary of their Soho outpost, the first in a line of eight. (The one here opened in 2015.) Big congrats from all of us south of the border!
THE WORTH STREET SAGA CONTINUES
Thanks to H. for the pic, and D. for this explanation of what’s going on at Worth and Hudson. It looked like a dugout to me initially, now it looks like a freight train: “The new water main that was run up Worth Street required the electric company to move one of their underground transmission lines. These are high voltage lines that are run in a pipe that is filled with oil to keep the cable cooled. In order to move the line they need to break the pipe and rather than draining the oil, from what I’m told would be a couple miles of pipe, they use liquid Nitrogen at –320 degrees to freeze the oil and create a block so they only need to drain a small section. I was told just today that the work will continue for at least a month.”
ANY GUESSES?
…why this cart is chained to the subway entrance?
WORTH A TRIP EAST
Tribecan Ken Smith’s park at Pier 35 has greened up already and offers some amazing views south, with protection from the wind. Take a swing at the end of the pier while there. Make time for a detour if you are headed over to the East River Fields.
