In the News: The Dutch are coming to keep us dry

THE EXPERTS ON FLOODING COME TO NYC
The New York City Economic Development Corporation has hired a consulting firm from the Netherlands to develop the city’s Financial District and Seaport Climate Resilience Master Plan. “Arcadis, which is currently working on the East Side Coastal Resiliency project, along with 18 other consultants will come up with options for protecting communities in Lower Manhattan which are vulnerable to climate change effects, including rising sea levels and flooding.” –Crain’s

LAST CHUNK OF GOVERNORS ISLAND TO BE DEVELOPED
The Times reports that the city will put out an RFP for one of the last big sections of developable land on Governors Island — as much as 4.2 million square feet on the southern half of the island (which is 96 acres – not sure why they talk about it in square feet). The idea is to rezone it for commercial and educational use “into a “living laboratory” for coping with the effects of climate change.”

KEEPING RENTAL APARTMENTS IN BPC
The Broadsheet reports that the president of the Battery Park City Authority told members of CB1 that it would – where it could – not permit the conversion of rental apartments to condos. “Where conversions would require our consent because of ground-lease requirements or law, we will not support any such moves in that regard,” president Benjamin Jones told The Broadsheet.

GUARDIAN LIFE BUILDING BEING REDEVELOPED
The Gural Family’s GFP and its partners are turning the building at 7 Hanover Square into two separate portions with addresses at 100 Pearl Street and 50 Water Street. The owners have already leased more than 525,000 square feet of office space at 50 Water Street to NYC Health + Hospitals, the nonprofit corporation that operates the city’s public hospitals and health care facilities.
