We need to put a stop to the package delivery people taking over our sidewalks and using them as their assembly lines. No, these are not Amazon employees. They represent local delivery shops. This is illegal and an affront to all of us. The northeast corner of Hudson and Franklin, in front of the old Santander Bank, has become unwalkable. The other day a small child tripped on the boxes and was injured. This is supposed to be a sidewalk! What is being done about this? Dare we ask if Margaret Chin would take any action to stop this? How do we get this on the CB1 agenda.
If they are not going to clear the homeless, and they are going to allow unlimited vendors (https://nypost.com/2019/11/03/falafel-free-for-all-bill-would-lift-city-cap-on-street-vendor-permits/), do you really think they are going to solve this problem?
Need to remove the street blockage and scaffolding from 21 Park Place. It has been there a year a no new work is occurring
A small child tripping on boxes is never a good thing but I like the independent contractors sorting through and delivery all of our packages. Commerce at work. It reminds me of a time in NY when the Type A Land Rover driving police could only voice their opinions among their friends.
You are in Manhattan people – pay attention. It ain’t gonna turn into small town living on your behalf.
What they really need to do for safety is keep all bikes, especially the fast electric bikes, skateboards and electric scooters OFF the sidewalks. The worst area is WTC/Oculus. If one of those electric bikes hits you, going as fast as they are going, you are going to be really injured or killed – a person was killed by one a few months ago.
RCNY § 4-07 (c)(3)(I): “No person shall ride or operate a bicycle upon any sidewalk area unless permitted by sign. This prohibition shall not apply to the operation of bicycles with wheels of less than 26 inches in diameter upon the sidewalk by children of 12 years or less in age.”
Right, it’s already against the law, but the police aren’t enforcing it. I have seen electric bikes on the sidewalk in front of the police.
