In the News: Saks closing men’s store at Brookfield

SAKS MEETS WEWORK?
Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its men’s store in Brookfield as of today and may reopen it with a different concept — perhaps ditching retail altogether. (The women’s store closed a year ago.) From Crain’s: “Sources added that Saks has not finalized its plans but said the space could function like a club, offering guests an area to work, socialize and possibly order food and drinks.”

CAMPAIGN DEBATE: WARREN’S SKIN CARE REGIME
Tribeca resident and dermatologic surgeon Dendy Engelman was asked by the Washington Post to weigh in on Elizabeth Warren’s skin care regime, after Warren told Cosmo that she never washes her face. (She uses Pond’s cold cream twice a day, just like her older cousin Tootsie.) Dendy’s answer: Warren must have been blessed with good skin. But the rest of mortals still have to wash our faces.

TRUMP LIED ABOUT SOHO
Big shocker: According to journalist Andrea Bernstein in her new book, “American Oligarchs: The Kushners, The Trumps And The Marriage Of Money And Power,” Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump exaggerated sales figures for the Trump SoHo complex to convince potential investors to buy property there.

DANCING THROUGH DOWNTOWN
The owners of Downtown Dance Factory — Hanne Larsen and Melanie Zrihen — get a shout-out from Dance Business Weekly (photo by our own Claudine Williams): “Tribeca’s Downtown Dance Factory has seen a 491 percent increase in student count over 10 years, becoming one of Manhattan’s largest studios. The owners’ mindful approach to growth has allowed them to create a business where their work-life balance is just right, too.”
