Tetsu will close on Friday

Tetsu, the modern Japanese robatayaki, or barbecue, and raw bar of celebrated chef Masayoshi Takayama that opened on Leonard in 2017  will close this Friday, Feb. 7, along with its sister restaurant, the super pricey Masa (where dinner is $595pp) at Columbus Circle. (Thanks to V. for the heads up.) CORRECTION: just Tetsu and Masa’s raw bar in Tribeca are closing. Here’s the official statement from the restaurant:

Regretfully, after nearly two and 1/2 wonderful years, Tetsu and Masa’s will be closing its doors after dinner service on Friday, February 7th. While this has been a tremendous labor of love for Chef Masa and his team, the market and the company’s trajectory have changed these past 10 years since Chef started the project. We are extremely grateful to our loyal neighbors and guests who have graciously supported us and hope they will continue to visit us this week. Reservations are greatly appreciated. Thank you once again for your support and we look forward to the new opportunities we are set to pursue in the future.

I added the menus here in case anyone wants to catch up on this one before you lose your chance, or get in your last licks. As far as I know, Takayama is still the chef at Kappo Masa, the restaurant he opened on the UES with Larry Gagosian.

  1. Sad to see. I was going to try them soon. I wonder how the market is for restaurants at this price level in that location. I only knew of them for taking my dog to Water4Dogs which shares that building. I just looked in the other day and trying to match the # of patrons to the price to the rent.

I hope the space gets filled soon

  2. Just to clarify, I don’t think the restaurant Masa at Columbus Circle is closing – just Tetsu and Masa’s Raw Bar (which is part of Testu).
