For the past year, Zucker’s has dropped 500 breakfasts off every morning at The Bowery Mission; since the pandemic hit they added in lunches as well. They are now fundraising in an effort to keep lunch going, and to expand the service: Zucker’s has the capability to churn out up to 10,000 ready-to-eat meals per day to deliver around the city and they are doing so at wholesale cost. In addition to The Bowery Mission, they have made deliveries at NYU Langone Health to ER nurses in the covid units, and also to Queens Hospital, and the list of requests is piling up.
Raising money for each meal at ‘wholesale cost’ allows them to keep their lights on and hire back employees. Each individually-wrapped meal serves one person and includes a healthful sandwich, a side and a drink. The ready-to-eat meals cost between $4-10 each, so you can donate based on how many meals you want to donate. And an approximate example of how payment for 1,000 meals are paid for is as follows:
-$2450 food cost
-$660 labor cost
-$390 expenses/overhead
