COMPOSTING IS BACK AT THE GREENMARKET
I heard from two readers who said the composting is back at the Greenmarket (and I confirmed with GrowNYC), which saves some of us on the southside the extra blocks required to get to Pier 25, where the park is also running a public food scraps program. Saturdays only; hours are 8a to 1p. And like Pier 25, it is straight-up organics composting:
Accepted Materials: fruit & vegetable scraps, non-greasy food scraps (rice, pasta, bread, grains, cereal), coffee grounds & filters, tea bags, egg shells & nuts, cut flowers & houseplants, soiled brown paper products, potting soil.
Do Not Bring: meat, fish, bones, dairy, fat, oil, greasy food scraps, animal waste, charcoal, coconuts, insect-infested plants, plastics, twist ties, rubber bands, or receipts.
THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT PASS FOR ANY COLOR
California-based artist Mildred Howard has installed an interactive sculpture in Battery Park City at the North Cove titled “The House That Will Not Pass for Any Color Than Its Own.” Groups of up to three or four people can enter at one time; the purple glass panels are partially mirrored, allowing visitors to see themselves reflected and in a different hue. The house is intentionally situated in a location along the Battery Park City waterfront for visitors to view the Statue of Liberty from within the house and through its doorway. On loan from the Sacramento County Department of Airports, the installation will be on view through summer 2021.
BREWERY OPENS TODAY ON VANDAM
Torch & Crown, which has been building out its Manhattan production brewery and restaurant for what seems like ages (and not a moment too soon) opens today at 12 Vandam at Spring. There is limited indoor seating and what they described as tons of outdoor seating. Hope to get there soon for a full report. Call for reservations or just walk in: 212-228-7005
