Seen & Heard: Gansevoort food market comes downtown

NEW FOOD HALL AT THE OCULUS
The Oculus has opened a new food hall, though because it happened to coincide with the closing of indoor dining PRECISELY what would have been a grand opening is now a soft opening offering delivery and takeout. There are 11 vendors (see the list here) and hours are 11 to 7 weekdays; noon to 6 weekends. The most efficient way in is to enter at Church and Liberty and take the elevators downstairs. More TK when I get over there.

UPDATE ON LAIGHT CITI BIKES
L. has gone back and forth with the Citi Bike folks who have been pretty responsive IMO about creating an opening for both pedestrians and Citi Bikers who want to park. It’s still stretching the length of the block and rarely has open docks (I can attest here). But the DOT took out a few bikes, and that allows for Citi Bikers to get on the sidewalk and for folks coming off the bridge to cross to the buildings on the north side before the corner.

FOR TEQUILA AND MESCAL LOVERS
A late addition to the holidays “eats” — or in this case drinks — guide. Anejo is offering tequila and mescal gift boxes for the holidays. Check them out here.

DOWNTOWN ALLIANCE GIVES OUT $1OOK FOR ARTS
The Downtown Alliance just doled out its arts and culture grants — and probably not a moment too soon for so many of our local arts organizations — with with $10,000 going to each of 11 organizations: 9/11 Memorial & Museum, 9/11 Tribute Museum, Battery Dance Company, China Institute, Fraunces Tavern Museum, Gibney Dance, the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust, Poets House, Skyscraper Museum, South Street Seaport Museum and Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation.

TRIBECA PEDS BK GETS DESIGN AWARD
Tribeca Pediatrics Bushwick snagged a design award from The Architect’s Newspaper for its “playful set of shapes and forms to welcome patients. The circle motif that has been a typical design element in all of Tribeca Pediatrics’ practice locations is taken to a new level of expression here.” The designers were OPerA Studio Architecture.

  1. the placement of the Citibike Docks are hijacking Public space for
    a private business.
The Docks are ugly and when placed in front of a business or a house are actually a ugly barrier and a taking without permission
of the property owner where the barrier Docks have been placed.

    • Are they as ugly as parked cars. Matter of opinion, I suppose.

    • No argument about them being “ugly” or a “barrier” BUT THEY ARE NOT “a taking without permission” — last I knew the streets belong to NYC, not the business that face the sidewalk.

The sidewalk doesn’t even belong to the businesses. NYC gave permission for businesses to utilize both sidewalks & streets.

Ugly is irrelevant in this context.

  2. Now that Poet’s House seems to be permanently closed, I wonder what will be done with the money?
