The Square Diner, which waited to open until September because summer here was so slow, will close for the winter, with plans to reopen in spring 2021. It’s not a surprise, especially with indoor dining now closed.
“The decision to go into ‘hibernation’ was not an easy one, but ultimately is the best way to ensure our long-term survival,” the note said. “We wish our friends, neighbors and customers a happy and healthy holiday season and we look forward to the better days ahead.”
Sending good wishes back to Anna and Teddy Karounos, whose family has run the place since 1971, from all of us in the neighborhood.

Happy Holidays, see you in Spring!
We’ll miss you, Ted!
Teddy, the neighborhood will really miss you! You’ve been a fixture for as long as we’ve been in Tribeca ( 20+ years) and look forward to those wonderful breakfasts when you reopen in the Spring.
Happy Holiday, my friend
