Confederate Flag tied to Museum of Jewish Heritage
The Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City discovered a Confederate flag tied to its front door on Friday, according to a press release from the museum. Coming on the heels of the events in DC, it’s yet another sign that antisemitism and white supremacists are alive and well, even here in Downtown Manhattan.
The museum filed a police report and hopes to identify the suspects — I assume with surveillance footage.
“This is an atrocious attack on our community and on our institution and must be met with the swift and forceful response by law enforcement,” wrote Jack Kliger, the museum’s president and CEO. “Such hate has now arrived at our doorstep, just steps away from a train car which once transported Jews to the Auschwitz death camp. These horrific acts of emboldened antisemitism must end now.”

I wasn’t sure if you were going to cover this. It’s so chilling. I first heard about it on Twitter the day after it happened.
Part of Jewish-American heritage is their role in the confederacy. Let us not erase the contributions Judah P. Benjamin brought to the richness of American history.
