DARE YOU NOT TO CRY
Neighbor Tricia Joyce caught this spontaneous concert at the Reade Street Pub on Saturday while having a drink with a friend. One minute this man is drinking at the table next to them, next he’s sending shivers down their spine. Press play. UPDATE: the reader known as CCFan added this to comments: “That singer is Tribeca native Charles Coleman! A composer who grew up in Independence Plaza. When COVID is over you have to catch him doing an opera night at Papillon Bistro. Bravo Charles!”
WHAT IN TRIBECA?
M. sent this photo asking if I could explain what this structure was on the side of 381 Broadway. Of course I couldn’t but I knew whom to ask! Tom Miller says: “That is (was) the 19th century entrance to the basement level. Now sadly altered.” Here’s his full post on the building.
15 BROAD ANGELS
The folks at 15 Broad who participated in a Salvation Army program to bring gifts to downtown New Yorkers during the holidays managed to sponsor 362 people this year — almost double what they did last year. And not without the considerable help from their building’s staff: “We would like to acknowledge the building staff at 15 Broad Street for giving us a workroom and accepting hundreds of shipments on our behalf. Tremendous gratitude to Maura, whose passion for these Angels only rivaled ours as she made volunteering with us her full time job.”

This made me smile. I always see him never knew he sang!! Will go also to watch him sing!
I saw Charles singing that very song, accompanied by a big band, on a stage set up in the plaza of the World Trade Center in the late summer of 2001(!)
He can still belt it out. Bravo!
Brought tears to my eyes and reminded me that in all the difficult times TriBeCa has been through I’m so grateful to live, work and be a member of this community. Once again our Love of this neighborhood gives us the energy to carry on. Thank you Tricia and thank you Charles.
Yup. I just cried. Tears down the cheek. How amazing. I’m so glad this treasured moment was captured!
Brilliant!!
It was a fun and spontaneous moment. Kinda cool that it was documented. I hope to be doing this kinda thing regularly during this time of Covid.
Love catching Charles at Opera at the Five & Dime on Wednesday nights.
