SHOPPING THE CENTURY 21 SPACE
The Real Deal reports that the Gindi family is shopping for a tenant for Century 21 — 60,000 square feet on Dey. “The family’s ASG Equities is offering free rent while the space at 25 Church Street is being built out, Crain’s reported. The landlord is also putting walls back up to once again separate the property from 22 Cortlandt Street. After Century 21 filed for bankruptcy and closed its stores last year, the Gindis purchased the retailer’s intellectual property for $9 million. The family said they would reopen select stores, but not the Financial District location, which it has owned for nearly three decades.”
THE WEEKND RESIGNS LEASE
The Weeknd, according to the Observer, reupped his lease at 443 Greenwich, though he sold his weekend home in the San Fernando Valley to Madonna.
NEW MARKET BUILDING WILL BE RAZED
The Trib reports that the city is moving ahead with plans to tear down the New Market Building at the Seaport (just north of Pier 17) after a woman was murdered there last month. “The Economic Development Corp., the city agency in charge of the property, said in a statement this week that the work would commence within the month, ‘starting with a construction fence, followed by the abatement and demolition process.'” The city decided to raze the building three years ago, but never did it.
11 GREENE IS FINISHED
YIMBY reports that 11 Greene, which sits at the top of Church on Canal, is finished. It’s a good looking building — which is a bonus since it’s the primary view every time you bike or walk north to Soho.
Now 11 Greene St is just down the block from a forthcoming men’s homeless shelter! Talk about Yes In My Back Yard!
Mayor prefers to use spaces in areas like this with high potential from real estate taxes for homeless shelters rather than optimizing revenue for city, Mayor was napping during economics 101 in school, an early napping trend that has continued through his absentee mayoral term.
There are over 450 homeless shelters in NYC and the City Councilmen are asking for more. It’s the business of homelessness. The NYC Councilmen base salary is $148,500. It’s a great job, isn’t it?
As opposed to salaries in, say, private equity, which specializes in short term profits – over corporate viability, jobs and, increasingly, independent medical providers?
But I know – government’s the problem for everything including lack of affordable housing and offshoring of jobs.
