Seen & Heard: Local art and art in the neighborhood

VAN CAUWENBERGH SHOW AT 57W57 ARTS
Tribecan and artist Marc Van Cauwenbergh, who has lived and worked on the corner of Broadway and Warren for the last 26 years, has a show up at 57W57 Arts through July 30. Originally from Belgium, Van Cauwenbergh studied printmaking at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts Sint-Lucas in Ghent and holds an MFA in painting from Pratt while on a Fulbright-Hays grant. He has exhibited internationally since 1984 and his work is in private, public and corporate collections across the globe.

SVA MFA AT 79 WARREN
The show is now over, but in case you were excited that the School of Visual Arts had taken up residence at 79 Warren, it is just a lease for the month of June for their MFA thesis show.

THE ART OF VENEZUELA
The Venezuela Art Fair will be on view at One Art Space on Warren from June 24 to 26, with the work of 35 artists on view and including painting, photography, sculpture and graphic design. The event was created “by Venezuelans for Venezuelans” and will also host another 40 artists virtually, from locations around the globe.

ARTIST SHOWCASE IN DOWNTOWN STOREFRONTS
The Downtown Alliance is partnering with a program called Art On The Ave NYC to allow artists to install pieces in downtown storefronts. Submissions should be guided by the notion of “resiliency,” the ability to demonstrate adaptability and the capacity to thrive in changing or challenging environments. The work can reflect the artist’s personal experiences, the city’s response to Covid, or New Yorkers’ responses to the uncertainties and thrills of urban life. More information here. Deadline is July 2.
