Roller Rabbit has closed; The Craft Studio is coming back

Roller Rabbit, the charming clothing store that had been installed on the south side of Duane Park for nearly a decade, has closed permanently. They shut down the retail operations there during the pandemic and were using that space as their corporate office. The team has now moved the offices to Greenwich.

And The Craft Studio, which was next door for three years until the pandemic, is back in the neighborhood and has taken the Roller Rabbit space, 176 Duane. (More on that when they open later this summer.)

Roberta Freymann opened the Roberta Roller Rabbit store here in October 2012, selling her line of clothing that celebrated the notion that “you should be on vacation year round.” Freymann had a colorful patterned approach to both clothing, accessories and home goods — her fabrics were block printed by hand in India originally and eventually in Peru, Italy, Portugal, Kenya and Nicaragua. However she sold the brand in 2017 and the name transitioned to just Roller Rabbit — minus the Roberta.

Freymann opened her first eponymous shop on Madison Avenue in 1996, expanded to the Hamptons, launched Roberta Roller Rabbit in 2003 and continued to expand. You can still shop locations on the Upper East Side, Southampton and East Hampton, as well as online here.
