NEW NAIL SALON ON CHAMBERS
The former Chambers Beauty Spa at 160 Chambers (between Greenwich and West Broadway) has been renovated and freshened up under new management and is now Venustella Nail Spa. They offer the usual services, but also have a nail artist, Emma, who will do custom designs. The owners have another salon near NYU.
NO UNACCOMPANIED KIDS AT THE ALAMO
I was surprised to learn — after I had bought tickets for my 16-year-old daughter and her friends to see Spiderman — that people under 18 cannot go to the movies at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema without adult supervision. I’ve never heard of such a thing. Since when can kids not go to movie theaters? Is it the alcohol service? But kids are allowed in restaurants without adults…
RATS BE GONE
J. reported that the rat traps that neighbors installed on Jay Street have caught 26 rats so far. “I’d say success, but unfortunately only a drop in the bucket, no pun intended. But it’s a start!”
MARY OBERING AT BORTOLAMI
Bortolami has a retrospective of the work of the downtown painter Mary Oberling from 1972 to 2003 up through Feb. 25. The exhibit focuses on the artist’s singular approach to minimalism and geometric abstraction and stretches across both floors of the gallery, with the upstairs dedicated to artworks from the 1970s, a nod to the artist’s Soho studio where she started in 1971. 39 Walker Street.
