Seen & Heard: Jail protest for Lunar New Year

LUNAR NEW YEAR PARADE + PROTEST
Since Mayor Adams will be in Chinatown to lead the parade on Sunday (details below) organizers against the jail are planning a protest there as well. Neighbors United Below Canal plan to line the streets along the parade route starting at noon (the parade kicks off at 1p).

Parade route: Sunday, Feb. 20: Mott & Canal to Chatham Square to East Broadway towards the Manhattan Bridge, completing on Eldridge and Forsyth Streets towards Grand Street next to Sara D. Roosevelt Park.

PAINTING THE HOUSES OF BROOKLYN
I love these paintings of Brooklyn by the artist Deborah Brown, who includes her and her dog Trout’s shadows in the images. (I guess she only paints houses while the sun shines on them.) Shows at Tennis Elbow at the Journal Gallery usually change every week but you have till March 3 to catch this at 45 White.

MIRIAM HAS REOPENED
Homemade by Miriam on West Broadway and Warren has reopened after doing some renovations to accommodate indoor dining for the first time. (They opened during the pandemic.)

PORTUGUESE TARTLETS IN SOHO
The Times gives a shout-out to the chef at Veranda, in the former James Hotel (now ModernHaus Soho) for his pastéis de Belém, flaky tartlets with a lightly spiced custard filling that are only available to-go. ”
