GOOD TIMING ON THE ICE STORM
Governors Island’s first-ever ice sculpture contest (this is the first year they have been open to the public in the winter) will be on view this weekend at Colonels Row. Artists were chosen in the contest, and now their designs will be carved live from 2 to 5 by professional ice carvers from Okamoto Studio. The Ice Theatre of New York will perform at 1:30, before the carving begins.
KICKSTARTER FOR BIG APPLE GIFTS
Tribecan and artist Azikiwe Mohammed has launched a Kickstarter campaign for his conceptual show, “Big Apple Gifts and Souvenirs.” The first iteration of Big Apple Gifts was part of the Gallery Walk at the Seaport last fall. The deadline to contribute is March 2; he is halfway to his goal so far. These are not your typical souvenirs for folks who will return to their double decker tour bus. Instead they are objects that speaks for “workers, hot street trash and night stuff.” “We work here, we live here, welcome home.”
MASK MANDATE LOOSENING A BIT AT SCHOOLS

ROCKEFELLER PARK MARDI GRAS CELEBRATION
On Fat Tuesday, March 1, the BPCA is decorating the park house at the end of Murray Street into a “house float” celebrating biodiversity, with art projects and music. The event is from 3 to 4.
