Seen & Heard: Rex Orange County storms Warren Street

BRITISH INVASION ON WARREN
If you are wondering why there was a line of swooning teenagers snaking down Warren to Broadway and then down Broadway to Murray and then some, it was all for Rex Orange County, the 20-something British singer who was signing T-shirts and other merch at One Art Space today (and will be back tomorrow). These cute girls came down from the UWS and waited in line for four hours to meet him. (They said he was sweet.) I must have just missed him by a minute because as I left to walk down Church because I heard screams coming from behind me.

CHURCH STREET’S ANNUAL “THE EVENT”
Church Street School will host its annual fundraiser — this year at City Winery — on April 8, from 6 to 10p. This year they will honor their founder, Lisa Ecklund-Flores, and Tom Goodkind, musician and founder of the TriBattery Pops who died in February 2019. Grab tickets here.

PAINT WHILE DRINKING AT MALIBU FARM
I don’t usually run this sort of thing since it’s more for advertising, but this seemed kind of unique (well, we do have The Muse right in the neighborhood, but this sounds almost like real art classes): Malibu Farm on Pier 17 and a group called Private Picassos are hosting a series of adult ‘paint and sip’ classes from 6:30 to 7:30 on a few Wednesdays this spring. The cost is $60 and includes one drink and all art supplies. See the descriptions here.

MONGOL ZURAG PAINTING AT SAPAR
Sapar Contemporary will host the paintings of Mongolian artist Uuriintuya Dagvasambuu, curated by Batzorig Mart, through May 7. At 9 N. Moore.

  1. Noticed signs in the windows next to Walker’s that Osteria Carlina is opening in the old Girello space. Should be a great addition—their West Village spot (on Hudson) is fairly new and very popular.

  2. On the subject of “seen and heard” on Warren Street, I noticed that they were doing renovations on the old Warren 77 space this weekend and stopped to ask about it. I was told the space will re-open as a gastropub (with less of a sports focus), and that the owner will be applying for a liquor license soon. Would be a very nice addition, and always great to see now-closed spots coming back to life.
