METAL ALCHEMIST COMING TO READE
R. sent this picture: the jewelry company Metal Alchemist has taken the storefront at 156 Reade, just east of Greenwich. They craft bracelet cuffs and rings and earrings out of silver, gold and copper with the purpose of “an energy boost with no side effects.” More soon, but in the meantime, from their website: “Metalsmiths, perfecting techniques from ancient alchemists, transform the highest quality silver, gold, and copper into a new bio-active, energetic, living metal. When worn, the piece begins sharing ions with your body, conducting and balancing energy, increasingly harmonizing and empowering you on every level. You will feel stronger, enhanced, and different.
WASHINGTON MARKET PARK CONCERT TONIGHT
Astrograss — an urban bluegrass band that is just delightful — will be playing for the third and final concert in Washington Market Park’s series. It’s tonight, June 27, at 4p.
MERCHANTS IS NOW MEZZE ON THE RIVER
I’ve been wondering what was going on with Merchants River House (on the river in BPC at Liberty) and J. figured it out. They have rebranded and now reopened as a Mediterranean restaurant called Mezze on the River. The menu is seafood, mezze platters, salads, dips, and cocktails inspired by the sea. Merchants also owns the Black Hound in BPC and Industry Kitchen at the Seaport. Hours are Monday to Friday, 4p to 11p, and weekends noon to midnight (they have a brunch on weekends).
NEW TO THE TRIBECA GALLERY DISTRICT
A new gallery — Friedrichs Pontone — has opened in the old South’s space at 273 Church, between White and Franklin. The space has been empty for years, so it’s exciting to see a new use for this especially pretty space. The founders are Martin Friedrichs, a former gallery director, and Domenic Pontone, who has an eponymous gallery in London and also is the director of The Albemarle Gallery London. The full program will start this fall.
