Moving day for PS 150 is coming soon

It was a bit sad to see the desks and shelves coming out to the curb from PS 150 last week — and my kids didn’t even go there. The school is moving to the new skyscraper that is 77 Greenwich (just north of the Battery) starting this coming school year.

The school’s staff is in what has to be one of the most challenging time crunches ever: they must vacate by the end of the month, when the power will be turned off at the old building, but the soonest they can get into the new building is August 29. (Those desks and shelves were actually on their way to another District 1 school.) The first day of school is Thursday, Sept. 8.

I did stroll down to see if I could get a glimpse of the new digs. Not much to see through the peephole in the construction fence, but the historic building — the Robert and Anne Dickey House — is looking good, and the tile work seems to be in place at the school entrance.

The entrance to the residential building (now called Jolie on Greenwich; apartments are for sale) seems just about complete, though the school will enter on the Trinity Place side, just north of the little Edgar Street and Elizabeth Berger Plaza. (See the rendering for that view.)

The next question: what will Stellar Management do with the PS 150 space at IPN?
