REMEMBERING TRIBECA TRIB’S DANA SEMAN
The Tribeca Trib has an obit for Tribecan Dana Seman, a resident of IPN since 1974 and who for 25 years was the Trib’s director of advertising. She died on June 16 from cancer at age 69. Trib publisher April Koral wrote: “She was the office’s high priestess of sorts, weighing in on the paper’s cover, trying to sway editorial decisions, and offering her opinions about design. Carl Glassman (the editor) and I sometimes bridled at her suggestions… But as much as we hated to admit it, Dana was often right.”

KAPP KAPP IN FOCUS
Artsy has a feature on the twin brothers behind Kapp Kapp gallery, a new addition to the Tribeca Gallery District at 86 Walker, and their commitment to queer artists. “Championing queer artists has been an organic outcome of the brothers’ mutual interests and tastes, whether searching for new talent or contextualizing overlooked bodies of work for a new audience. ‘Queerness is central to our thinking without a generational or stylistic priority,’ Daniel Kapp said. In this direction, they promise that the gallery’s upcoming programming will be ‘very Kapp Kapp.'”

  1. I was greatly saddened to learn of Dana Seman’s passing. We chatted periodically through the years, and she was always informative, pleasant, and devoted to the Tribeca community.

We also lost Jacques Capsouto this week, a beacon of hospitality in Tribeca, and a valued friend.

We will miss them greatly, and never forget them as we carry them in our hearts.

  2. thank you Tribeca Trib for the lovely tribute to Dana.
and thank you Tracy for the information about Jacques Capsouto.
many of our recent neighbors may not know these names, but each played an important role in the building of “Our Town”
Pam– perhaps more detailed info about the Capsouto brothers would interest your readers.

    • I agree. The story of the Capsouto family is fascinating. And, we also have Allbert Capsouto Park in the neighborhood. They were Tribeca pioneers.

    • Yes! I would love to know more about the Capsouto family. I am assuming these are the brothers behind the beloved and dearly missed Capsouto Freres restaurant.
