TURNS OUT THE RATS HERE ARE CAKE
Crain’s has a story on the exploding rat population in the city, blaming it on the decrease in inspections from the Department of Health. But my take away was that the rats here are nothing compared to the Upper West Side and downtown Brooklyn, where the number of sightings is 500 TIMES!! higher than our district. Yipes!!
WELCOMING GREENWICH ST. JEWELERS TO TRIBECA
Forbes has a feature on Greenwich St. Jewelers and their move to Reade Street: “The business has a strong downtown DNA the offspring wanted to preserve, so Tribeca was a natural choice. ‘We have a service business, and this was a community where we could offer that service.'”
OPEN MEETINGS LAW AMENDED
City & Land reports that the Open Meetings Law was amended (this was news to me) to allow Community Boards and other agencies to hold hybrid public hearings — and I am assuming this means meetings too? “Under the new law, a quorum of members of the governing body must be present in the physical location, but other members may use videoconferencing to participate in the meeting due to [challenging] circumstances. The public body must maintain an official website, and post the recordings of each hearing.”
7 DEY STREET HAS FINISHED EXTERIORS
YIMBY reports that exterior work at 7 Dey Street (formerly 185 Broadway) is complete. The building is 34 stories and 404 feet high, thanks to air rights purchased by the developer from the MTA. It will have 209 rental units ranging from studio to three-bedroom layouts, 26,000 square feet of office space on floors three to five, and 17,000 square feet of retail space spread across the basement, ground, and second floors.
