The Post reports that Jared Eng, the son of longtime Tribeca resident Paula Chin, pleaded guilty to one count of murder for killing his mother in their apartment on Vestry in 2019.
Eng, who is now 25, was a student at SUNY New Paltz three years ago when the events surrounding the murder unfolded on Feb. 6, 2019. He has admitted to beating and slashing his mother in order to get her money, and then, along with two accomplices, disposing of her body at the family’s second home in Morristown, NJ — transporting her in Chin’s own car.
Eng’s older brother, Brandon, reported Chin missing and police found her body in New Jersey the next day.
Chin, who died at 65, was a volunteer for Hudson River Park and was involved in other neighborhood and national organizations. According to city records, Chin and her husband, Philip Eng, purchased 17 Vestry — a two-story building with three units — 35 years ago, in 1987. That same year Chin incorporated a school supply business, Pyceco Distribution Corp., at that same address.
More from The Post: “Investigators found bloody rubber gloves in the garbage and bloodstains on the New Jersey residence’s garage floor. More bloody gloves, along with blood traces, were found inside the Tribeca apartment. In a series of text messages after the murder, Eng reported ‘It’s done,’ ‘I’m free,’ and that he ‘got rid of [his] problem,’ according to prosecutors. He then began changing the passwords on Chin’s bank accounts, searching for inheritance lawyers and researching ways to dispose of his mom’s corpse.”
This is simply horrifying and so depressing.
Not a very bright plan. Depraved.
