Elyse Walker, the stylist and luxury fashion retailer who started her own stores in 1999, opened a Tribeca shop two days ago at 39 N. Moore between Hudson and Varick — and when I stopped by there were already a bunch of shoppers. There were two guards in the store, to give you a sense of what I mean when I say luxury. Walker has four clothing stores in California as well as three others called Towne by Elyse Walker.

Walker was raised in Scarsdale and worked as a kid in her mother’s shoe store there. After a degree in applied mathematics from Columbia, she opened her first store, Capretto Shoes, here in the city. In 1999, after a move to the West Coast, she opened her eponymous shop in Pacific Palisades.

Her store sells other labels — Tom Ford, Sablyn, Khaite, Saint Laurent and dozens of others — but she also has several lines of her own, including shoes and leather goods.
