In the News: FBI arrests suspected pedophile on Duane

C. sent this picture of an FBI arrest on Duane Park, and the Broadsheet put the story together. Read the full story here.

It turns out that the FBI arrested Efrem Zelony-Mindell, a curator and painter based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Zelony-Mindell had been communicating with a fellow “pedo” on the Scruff app — an international social app for men seeking men — who said he could arrange a meeting with a 9-year-old boy. The man was actually undercover FBI agent Aaron Spivack, who is assigned to the agency’s Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Task Force.

The two arranged to meet on Friday, Dec. 16, at 9a at a coffee shop on Duane and Greenwich, which I assume was Laughing Man. The bust went down just across the street. I would love to know why the FBI picked Tribeca for their sting…

More from the Broadsheet: “Zelony-Mindell has been charged with one count of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years in prison and a maximum of life in prison. He has also been charged with one count of distribution of child pornography, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum of 20 years in prison; and one count of possession of child pornography, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years.”
