CALIZA COOKING WITH GAS
Caliza, the new Mexican on N. Moore and Greenwich, finally got its gas hookup on Jan. 6 and is ramping up to a full menu now. They are hoping to do a real-live grand opening in the first week of February. I will get over there soon and report back.
EGG SHORTAGE HITS WHOLE FOODS
I didn’t know there was a nationwide egg shortage (caused by an avian flu outbreak and the cost of fuel, etc.) till I saw this sign limited customers to two cartons. I did, however, notice that eggs cost a small fortune these days so I should have connected the dots. My usual non-organic large eggs are now $3.49 are still in the realm here…
CAFE CLEMENTINE IS GETTING CLOSER!
More soon when I get in touch with those guys, but here’s the latest drywall update from Cafe Clementine, coming along at Duane and Greenwich.

eggs–ouch!!!
i use a LOT of eggs- fresh eggs. i can’t make my products with fake eggs.
my wholesale price of eggs has increased 450% over the past 8 months and now it i have to get on a waiting list to buy eggs!
the large commercial food companies are buying up all the available stock as soon as it comes on the market.
I can’t keep raising prices- what is a small food company like mine to do?
would the neighborhood mind if a turned my outdoor seating area into a chicken coop?
No @Madeline! Your chocolate scones are worth every inch of a chicken coop on Duane! You can charge the neighborhood kids to clean the cages and care for the chickens:). In all seriousness, that certainly is a tough position and hopefully the neighborhood will #supportsmallbusiness.
Just curious, Caliza, do they need a permit to build the outdoor dining section? It looks permanent.
Also looks like it’s in private property so likely doesn’t need a permit.
If it is within the property line, and there is a permanent demarcation, then they need permits just to build on private property, and not an easement to operate on the public sidewalk.
They are within the property lines of IPN. Same as Cocoon down the street.
