In the News: Hyundai buys 15 Laight

HYUNDAI HQ ON LAIGHT
I’ve been wanting to tour this building for ages and now it’s too late: Bloomberg reports that Hyundai Motor Group, which is based in Seoul, bought 15 Laight, the building at the tunnel entrance that was finished a couple years ago. They are paying $275 million in cash, “according to people familiar with the matter, who asked not to be named because the transaction is private.” The seller was Vanbarton Group, developer of the roughly 108,000-square-foot building.

GOTAN IN JERSEY CITY
The Hoboken Girl reports that Gotan has added a new location in the Paulus Hook neighborhood of Jersey City, on Van Vorst Street. The owner, Rami Rosen, also owns Yuki’s Coffee + Bakery in Hoboken, which opened during the pandemic. “Gotan initially had four locations in New York, but then three spots were forced to shut down during the pandemic. The Tribeca location, at 130 Franklin Street, New York, has been in business for eight years and is still going strong. The owner, who used to live in Hoboken but now resides in North Bergen, said that he wants to focus on expanding in New Jersey going forward.”

MORE ON UNLICENSED WEED SHOPS
The Post targets Jungle Boys, one of the neighborhood’s half dozen (at least) unlicensed weed shops, thanks to its location right across from City Hall. (Thanks to M. for spotting this one.”) “Jungle Boys smugly operates out of the landmarked Broadway building that’s also home to some of Mayor Eric Adams’ staff and various city agencies — and just 278 feet away from the august epicenter of New York City government. ‘I’m aware we’re selling to them, City Hall people,’ shrugged Jungle Boys employee Edward Nunez Lopez, who wouldn’t reveal any bold-faced names.”

FASHION WEEK ON WARREN
Knitwear designer Henry Zankov launched his latest collection on Warren Street, in the rented gallery space next to German School Manhattan that has become a go-to spot for sample sales and other fashion events. We walked by (without a camera!) on Wednesday night to see the high-style crowds, but Vogue put it all together for me.

  1. I wonder if Hyundai will use the space similar to the Genesis House in the Meatpacking district.
