REVOLVING RETAIL ON CHURCH?
The space that was the failed attempt at a nightclub at 293 Church now has signage for the Revolving Store. More TK when they get back to me, but they bill it as “where disruption meets retail.”
NEW GALLERY ON CHURCH
I hadn’t noticed (has it been there forever?) the Margot Samel Gallery now installed next door at 295 Church and Walker/White. The gallery’s program presents research-driven exhibitions by artists of international backgrounds. Up now through July 14: Amy Winstanley (born 1983), a painter and sculptor based in Glasgow.
A CONCERT TO HONOR TOM GOODKIND
The BPC Adult Choir and Church Street School will present a free concert and community sing-a-long in remembrance of Tom Goodkind at Asphalt Green, 212 North End Ave., on Wednesday, July 12, 7p. Goodkind, who died of 9/11 related cancer in 2019, was a member of Community Board 1 for over 17 years and served on the steering committee that helped bring Asphalt Green to BPC. In the 1980s, Goodkind was a prominent leader of The Washington Squares, a popular Grammy Award nominated, neo-beatnik folk music group and the founder and conductor of the “TriBattery Pops,” a concert band of local volunteers.
A HISTORY OF AUDIO AT SPRING STUDIOS
This is a bit out of the ordinary but could be fun: The luxury audio brand Marantz is throwing itself a birthday party at Spring Studios on Wednesday, July 12, from 11a to 7p, and it is free and open to the public. “The House of Marantz” will be an immersive experience honoring 70 years since founder Saul Marantz started the company in New York City. There will be 7000 square feet of listening studios, a museum featuring the history of the hi-fi, and vinyl for sale. Not required, but you can secure a seat in one of the exclusive listening sessions here.
You should do a piece with a summary of all the art galleries in Tribeca / map, with hours and suggestion for a walking tour! You had previously reported on the transition downtown here from Chelsea and would be good to understand latest.
You can see a map here and here.
Neither looks entirely complete to me at first glance — I think there might be close to 50 galleries now — but it will get you started!
Is the 1st Thursdays Art Walk back?
I don’t know their schedule, but will add to a post when they let me know.
Many thanks for this! Especially the second one is very helpful!
Marantz is such an iconic brand!
