In the News: Analyzing the Downtown office market

OFFICE MARKET STILL LAGGING
Crain’s has a quick analysis of the office and affordable housing market in the Financial District, noting that: “Downtown has lagged far behind its Midtown and Midtown South counterparts. This remained the case as recently as August, when downtown had the lowest amount of leasing activity (about 445,000 square feet), the lowest average asking rent ($58.24 per square foot) and the highest availability rate (21.3%) of the three neighborhoods, according to data from Colliers.”

LATE NIGHT EATS
Eater made a list of the best late night restaurants in the city, including Dim Sum Palace on Division which stays open till 3a. Giving a shoutout to Tribeca’s last 24-hour joint: Benvenuto. From Eater: “Before the pandemic, the neighborhood was packed with late-night restaurants: Now, it’s one of the few places to serve food past midnight. Pick among barbecue pork buns and roast duck spring rolls, or order larger plates to share, like whole lobster with ginger and scallion or snails with celery and hot peppers.”

WOMAN PUSHED ONTO TRACKS AT CHAMBERS
This is old news, but ICYMI a woman was pushed onto the tracks at the Chambers Street station of the 1/2/3 on Tuesday, August 29, just after 11p. ABC7 followed up. Authorities say a man came up from behind and pushed her to the track. There was no train entering the station at the time, allowing a group of strangers to help lift her back to the platform as the assailant fled.
