Celebrating Duane Park from above

The Friends of Duane Park held its second “Dinner on Duane” event on Sunday, though this time, with rain in the forecast, they switched it to a rain location at the Western Union Building at 60 Hudson — and it was fabulous. More than 200 guests were seated at one long table in a raw space that stretched from Hudson to West Broadway, with nearly a dozen neighborhood businesses chipping in to pull it off.

The two big thank you notes have to go to 60 Hudson, which provided the space — a raw blockfront on the 8th floor — for zero charge to the Friends, not even cooling or security. And Compass real estate agent and Tribecan Amy Bonomi was the presenting partner for the whole shebang.

The food was provided by One White Street, and chef Austin Johnson served three courses family style — I’m still thinking about the harissa roasted carrots and the crispy skin on the roasted chicken. Not sure how he did that. Duane Park Patisserie and Madeline Lanciani provided the cookies and ring dings for dessert. Tribeca Wine Merchants on the park and Adrian Chalk Selections on Park Place were pouring all night; Laughing Man served coffee; Elan Flowers, which just moved back to the neighborhood, provided the flowers. Mary Giuliani Catering oversaw the entire dinner.

There were goodies from Urban Umbrella, the local company that designs the better looking and less claustrophobic sidewalk bridges and the Washington Market School, and support was provided by Aztech Mountain, the alpine-focused clothing store on Duane Park; Real Pilates; The Greenwich Hotel; Damon Liss Design; ARC Athletics on Staple; and the Craft Studio, the creative space for kids and adults on Duane Park.
