M. spotted a sign outside 28 Warren for the Soto Method, a fitness studio that offers a mix of cardio and sculpting movements designed to “maximize burn and efficiently deliver a full-body workout.” Soto stands for Sixty on. SHOPBOY AS GALLERY
Shopboy, the tailor on Walker (owned by Kendall and Desmond Brooks, above), has turned the front of its space into a gallery and showroom, and is now collaborating with Calabar Gallery to present textile, glass and sculpture from African, African American and Caribbean artists throughout the year. Up now: Ghislaine Sabiti, who has constructed a cultural identity through weaving and braiding. She uses a range of materials, and highlights the technical form from both African and European arts to stress form and color.
DESTROY WHAT WE LOVE
Apexart will host a show called “Build what we hate. Destroy what we love.” through March 9 at 291 Church. The show amplifies the voices of Venezuelan migrants by articulating the social and cultural components that make up their mass exodus. Curated by Fabiola R. Delgado.
