READING OF ELIE WIESEL’S MEMOIR “NIGHT”
The Museum of Jewish Heritage will commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day with a community reading of Elie Wiesel’s influential memoir “Night” on Sunday, Jan. 28, from 1 to 5p (though you can go at any time in that period). Well-known figures will take turns reading the book throughout the afternoon; and the reading will be interspersed with music and reflections. Scheduled readers and speakers include actor and Joshua Malina; CNN senior anchor John Avlon; actress Julianna Margulies; journalist Ann Curry; actress Jackie Hoffman and many more. SEEKING FILMMAKER IN CHIEF FOR DOWNTOWN
The Downtown Alliance is seeking a Filmmaker in Chief — the first of its kind and what could be a dream job for an emerging filmmaker. It is open to applicants nationwide until Feb. 16. The winner will receive $50,000, two months paid housing, a two-month stipend, and access to an editing suite to produce a short film on location in Lower Manhattan. The jury includes Pete Torres, COO of the Tribeca Film Festival; Khady Kamara, executive director of the Perelman Performing Arts Center; Kwame Amoaku, deputy director of the NYC Office of Media and Entertainment; and Wynn Thomas, production designer for “Hidden Figures,” “A Beautiful Mind” and “Do the Right Thing.” Apply here.

STREET AND SIDEWALK REVEAL AFTER FOUR YEARS
The Warren Street Hotel at 86 Warren finally removed the barriers in the street, which have been up since early winter 2020. It’s a relief to see down the sidewalk again. I bet the M9 drivers feel the same way…
