A new gym has opened at 101 Leonard, but with a unique concept: it’s the new product of a longstanding physical therapy operation that wanted to provide a setting for patients to workout after treatments. It’s called Club 300 Powered by Theradynamics, and while it is one business, think of it as two: a gym that will have a maximum of 300 members, and/or a studio for high-tech physical therapy, plus lots of shared spaces for both uses.
Theradynamics was founded by Alex Solovey in 1995 with a refreshing approach: they are in-network providers for just about every insurance plan. “We offer the same experience that a professional athlete would have,” said senior VP Michael Greene, “but we also accept every single insurance plan known to man.”
The space is long and narrow with no windows but nicely outfitted: there are nine PT treatment beds, one private treatment office, Life Fitness Insignia machines (chest press, leg extension, leg curl, etc), free weights, treadmills and stepmills, recumbent bikes, upright bikes, Keiser equipment powered with air pressure, an infrared sauna cocoon pod, saunas — and there’s a recovery room with five chairs for patients and gym members that has compression massage, heat and vibration therapy, even meditation stations.
(FYI, my pictures don’t do it justice, and I did not shoot places where people were getting therapies. That is general manager Naeemah Brown, above.)
This is the 18th Theradynamic facility — there are six others in Manhattan — but the first Club 300. Currently there are a bit over 62 members (they opened in January 2023); it will cap at 300. Check the website for rates, but it is about $164 month-to-month with an initiation fee of $250 — but look for a code to waive that.
