Seen & Heard: Ladder 8 will be frozen over next week

LADDER 8 GHOSTBUSTERS FAMILY EVENT
Ladder 8 will host a family Ghostbusters event on March 16 as a fundraiser for the FDNY Foundation and as a celebration of the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, “Frozen Empire.” The hours are 11a to 2p and the event is free, but there is a suggested donation of $50 per person or $100 per family. The Ectomobile will be there along with movie set food trucks, musical performances, the FDNY mascot and fire safety drills. Plus the firehouse will be covered in ice. Funds raised will go towards fire safety education and prevention in Bronx Community District 5.

NEW PRESIDENT FOR MOCA
The Museum of Chinese in America board of trustees has appointed a new president: Michael Lee. Lee comes to the museum after serving six years as the managing director of corporate development at the New York Institute of Finance, a century-old educational institution that trains professionals in finance. Prior to that he served as the executive director of Apex for Youth, a nonprofit that provides mentoring, education and after school programs to underserved Asian youth in the city.

CELEBRATE IRELAND IN FAMILY WORKSHOP
Battery Park City and the Irish Arts Center will host a free family workshop highlighting stories from Ireland on Saturday, March 9, 10:30a at 6 River Terrace. Create a keepsake, take part in a variety of fun activities, and watch a live performance by violinist Liz Hanley and friends. Art project is designed for ages 4 and up. RSVP here.

PARK ROW PLANNING EVENT
I need to tune into this more fully, but in the meantime, Community Board 3 will hold a public meeting on the future of Park Row with presenters from DOT, EDC and the Parks Department on Tuesday, March 12, 6:30 p at the Chatham Green Community Room (165 Park Row, basement). The Park Row Alliance sent the note, adding that “with unique access to the 19,000+ daily pedestrians on the Brooklyn Bridge, Park Row is ripe to become an iconic public space and drive $400M+ in economic output to Chinatown + area neighborhoods.” Their goals include better lighting, pedestrian and cycling paths, the removal of decrepit (my word) barriers, more trees and murals.

  1. If anyone from the Park Row Alliance reads this, perhaps you could reallocate some of the funds for the mural/artwork and others for a playground or field that the local population can enjoy.
