Hal Bromm gallery will be holding “The New Antique Sale,” an exhibition of artwork, collectibles and objects disguised as ‘antiques’ from April 5 – 7 with a special sneak preview on Thursday, April 4.
But wait, there’s more: the gallery is calling on all artists, creators, collectors and makers to submit pieces that will be vetted, reviewed and selected based on their creative appeal. “We’re hoping to find a range of objects, from ‘real’ antiques to original artworks that take the idea of an antique as their inspiration,” said Katie Svensson. “We are open to what people can imagine a ‘new antique’ to look like. Likewise, an antique chair, a porcelain doll, a landscape painting, or dishware from the early 20th century (or convincing replicas of these items or minor modification to these items) will equally be accepted.”
Here are the instructions: “This curated event is your chance to let your imagination run free. Consider the qualities that make an ‘antique’ special: the era and period, the commodity value, its enduring appeal over time, its unique craft, materials and design ingenuity. Go through your closets, storage spaces, aunt’s attic, friends’ boudoir to find an antique you could tweak with your own intervention, updating it. Or sell an antique you’re ready to pass on to someone who will treasure it anew.” Deadline is March 27; email your object to thenewantique2@gmail.com
