In the News: The last days of Sheldon Silver

THE LAST DAYS OF SHELDON SILVER
The City has a very sad story about the last days of Downtown Assemblyman Shelly Silver, who died in 2022 in federal prison. From The City: “Sheldon Silver, who was for years one of the most powerful politicians in the state before he was taken down by a corruption conviction, spent his last days struggling to get out of his prison bed while his wife was barred from visiting him as he lay dying. Silver lost nearly 60 pounds over the last six months of his life before he passed away from cardiac arrest inside Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer, Massachusetts.”

FIRE AT 125 GREENWICH
The Trib reported that a fire broke out last week in the HVAC system at 125 Greenwich, the Raphael Vinoly-designed supertall just south of the World Trade Center at Albany. No injuries were reported but the Trib said that 20 units and 78 personnel responded from the FDNY. They had just started selling the units…

ELECTRIC HELICOPTER RIDES TO THE AIRPORT?
I am adding this here as a heads up, since we have two heliports within three miles of Tribeca, and since they already cause trouble: The Washington Post has a story about the advent of electric helicopters, and how they might be used to shuttle people to airports. From The Post: “Delta Air Lines, in partnership with Joby, plans to offer a “premium ‘Home to Seat’” service to connect heliports with nearby major airports once certified by the Federal Aviation Administration. The companies estimate that about 1,000 people a day would choose eVTOLS instead of automobiles to travel to and from the airport.”

SAGA AT 70 VESTRY
The Real Deal has a story and an excellent illustration about the divorce battle over an apartment at 70 Vestry from the owner of Elite modeling agency and his (ex)wife. From TRD: “JP Morgan Chase is calling due a $33 million mortgage used by Italian business magnate Silvio Scaglia to buy the 7,800-square-foot spread at 70 Vestry Street in 2018 for $55 million.”
