HOUSEMAN OPENS FOR LUNCH NEXT WEEK
I love it when a neighborhood spot reopens for lunch, since covid struck down my favorite meal. Houseman will start offering a new lunch menu on April 2. (Owner Ned Baldwin said things around Hudson Square are getting livelier, with more folks in the subway station in the morning and Sweetgreen looking busy at lunch.) The menu includes the plate salad, roast chicken, a new burger with an inside out brioche bun, American cheese and jalapenos. From Ned: “Despite that April 2nd is the start of my striped bass fishing season I’ll be on the line at lunch every day keeping it tight and efficient and making sure we serve the best food we can.”

BEEFBAR OPENS APRIL 4
Beefbar, which took over the Nobu space, opens officially on April 2. They are taking reservations now. I will get in there asap.

SMORGASBURG STARTS APRIL 5
Smorgasburg returns to the World Trade Center on Friday, April 5. Hours are 11a to 6p. There are 20 new vendors citywide; the WTC site will have 29 vendors total.

HOW BEAVERS MADE AMERICA
The Seaport Museum will host award-winning author Leila Philip on April 13 at 2p on the Wavertree for a talk focusing on her best-selling book “Beaverland: How One Weird Rodent Made America,” which investigates the fascinating role that beavers had in the history of Manahatta and their enduring contributions to the past, present and future of New York Harbor.
