New Kid on the Block: StretchLab

A franchise of StretchLab, a fitness studio that offers assisted stretch sessions, has opened on Chambers between Greenwich and West Broadway. Petco left the bigger space in April 2020 and Cricket’s Candy Creations has taken the other side.

The company was founded in 2015 in Venice, California, and started offering franchises in 2017; now there are more than 400 in the Northeast. The Tribeca location, one of five in Manhattan, is owned by David Heyman, a long-time member and devotee.

The studio offers one-on-one and group stretching sessions to increase flexibility and recover from injury, working with a trainer. The business has a proprietary training program that requires 60 hours of theory and hands-on training to learn the muscular system, assisted stretches and how to work with a variety of clients of all ages and body types.

The pricing is a bit complicated so I won’t dive too deep, but the introductory one-on-one session — for people who have never been there before — is discounted at $39 for 25 minutes and $59 for 50 minutes. If you want to pop in after that, the rates are $75 and $135. There are savings for members; for example the monthly rate for one 25-minute session per week is $239.

The space is clean and simple and looks inviting. I may just get in there for a session…

  1. I believe there are locations in Union Square and BK. To the comment that this was (or was not) the first location in NYC.
