Laughing Man has a new menu

Slate Cafe, a local chain started in 2015 in Nomad and owned by a married couple, is now exclusively operating at the kitchen at Laughing Man, so there is a new food menu at the longtime coffee shop.

The official name is Slate Cafe at Laughing Man, and the menu includes sandwiches, salads, bowls, small plates and substantial breakfast items: baconĀ  scrambles, breakfast pizza, waffles, walnut granola.

There is modified table service: you order at the counter, get a number on a stick, and they bring the food out. That system works great by me — streamlined. But not sure what the options are if you need S&P or butter for toast. I imagine you can grab one of the runners as they go by for another table.

We did the avocado toast, which has a unique addition: hot honey in a thin layer on top. The effect was more sweet than the usual savory. The highlight of the mushroom scramble was the herbed feta, but it wasn’t served hot enough for my taste. I would go back for the BEC which was served on a fresh brioche roll with spicy aioli and, in a twist, lettuce. The prices were reasonable: $11 to $13. See the full menu below.
