Seen & Heard: Manhattanhenge this weekend

MANHATTANHENGE IS TONIGHT AND TOMORROW
Watch Tribeca’s own Neil deGrasse Tyson on Manhattanhenge, when the sun sets lined up with the street grid of Manhattan. It’s a term he coined as well. In the video, Tyson discusses how he came up with the name and what future anthropologists might make of New York City’s serendipitous alignment with the sun. Note: The dates in this video apply to 2013. For 2024, Manhattanhenge is Friday, July 12, 8:20pm ET (Full Sun) and Saturday, July 13, 8:21 pm ET (Half Sun). The best spot closest to here will be 14th Street.

BAGELS COMING TO READE
Thanks to C. and C. for the eyeball: Nala’s Bagel & Brunch is coming to Reade between Church and Broadway. Will keep an eye on it.

HURRAY FOR THE RIFF RAFF IN ROCKEFELLER
Battery Park City’s River & Blues series will host Hurray for the Riff Raff, founded by Alynda Segarra, on Thursday, July 18. Doors open at 6:30; DJ Suzan Z Anthony at 7p; show at 7:30p.
