FUTURE FLOODPLAIN MAPS AREN’T PRETTY
Heide Fasnacht sent this image from the NYC Flood Hazard Mapper, which in this scenario is showing the future floodplain for the 2020s. The maps are based on a layering of high estimates on top of the 2013 1% annual chance floodplain. These data are intended to support long-range planning decisions regarding climate change adaptation. Play around with the map and much worse future scenarios here.
NEW CHINESE RESTAURANT IN FIDI
M. caught sight of Yeh’s Bao, a new Chinese restaurant that opened in May specializing in “Asian comfort food.” Think dumplings, buns, noodles, small plates. At Rector and Washington/West, open 11:30 to 9p seven days. (917) 388-2801. More when I get down there.
AZABU TAKES ON NEW SOUS-SUSHI CHEF
Azabu has appointed a new sous-sushi chef for its sushi bar, The Den, to work alongside head chef Toshihide Terado. Nanako Fujitani is one of the very few female Japanese sushi chefs who trained in Japan. The sushi counter is downstairs, accessed through a secret door, and offers an omakase menu for $250 or a Signature Nigiri Omakase for $350. They’re also now offering a $180 omakase menu when you sit at a table (as opposed to the sushi bar).
CARROT EXPRESS COMING TO HUDSON EATS
A. saw it first: Carrot Express, which was founded in a gas station in Miami Beach in 1993 and now has a dozen locations in Florida, will open soon at Hudson Eats, upstairs from the Winter Garden. They have made-to-order breakfast, lunch and dinner with items such as acai bowls, wraps and “power bowls,” veggies and protein served over rice or quinoa. More soon.
